LRHS Prayer 640 is a Christian-based club that meets once a month on Mondays at 6:40 am in Trailer 10. The club is devoted to prayer and learning more about the Christian faith and how to grow in it. The club aims to spread the love of Jesus and the Christian faith through prayer and community here at Leesville. The officers of the club are Anna-Kate Simmons, junior, Mary Bradley Dalton, junior, and Sam Perdue, senior.
The club was started because the officers of the club all felt like the Christian clubs that were already in place at Leesville were based on things such as devotion or community. When they realized this, Simmons, Dalton, and Perdue decided to start their own Christian club focused solely on prayer, which they consider to be a large and important part of the Christian community. At the meetings, the students divide into breakout groups where they can pray for the school, each other, and things going on in their personal lives.
Anna-Kate Simmons, junior, is in charge of the club’s social media. She said over text, “We saw that there were Christian clubs at Leesville, but they were all devotion or community-based, so we thought a prayer group would fit the missing space! We thought it would be a good way to have a community, but in a unique way.”
Along with the other two officers, Simmons is in charge of running the club’s social media and posting monthly reminders about upcoming meetings. She also helps to facilitate and introduce the meetings. Simmons said, “We have guides with points to pray over students, staff, believers, nonbelievers, the campus, etc. We pray over those in small groups as well as share prayer requests.”
Each month, the club includes prayers for different themes, seasons, or times of year. For example, at their December meeting, which was held on December 15, 2025, the officers encouraged the students to dedicate a prayer to the Christmas season. Aside from praying in these small groups at the meetings, there is also a Google form posted in the bio of the club’s Instagram account (@lrhsprayer640) where students can submit anonymous prayer requests to be prayed over for themselves or someone they know. All prayer requests must be clean and school-appropriate and will be read aloud at the next meeting that happens closest to the prayer request submission. This allows the officers to collect all of the requests so that the club can pray over that person.
Mary Bradley Dalton, junior, said over text, “There aren’t solely clubs centered around prayer at Leesville, and prayer is such a huge and important part of the Christian community! This club gives people a designated time devoted to talking to God with their friends, where they can also share prayer requests and answered prayers!”
Dalton explained that at the meetings, they have time to socialize and eat breakfast, typically donuts, at the beginning of all of the meetings. Afterwards, they all break into groups and pray over three things: personal prayer requests and praises, prayers for the school and the students and teachers at Leesville, and usually something related to a theme (like Christmas). Dalton said, “None of [the officers] have specific roles or officer titles; it’s more just like leaders, but we plan what we’re going to pray for at each meeting, make the social media posts, and facilitate the small prayer groups during the meetings.”
The LRHS Prayer 640 club here at Leesville will continue to have monthly meetings in the mornings before school, and they hope to grow as a club and gain more members at future meetings. The officers also plan on making the club more community-based and fun in hopes of gaining higher attendance. You can find more information and reminders about future meetings, as well as the club’s prayer request form, on their Instagram @lrhsprayer640.
