Mrs. Julia Killian, parent of an LRHS student, has created a new senior-wall mural for Leesville Road High School.
Killian’s inspirations were various lion paintings she found online. She then revised her models and included LRHS kelley green and navy as the primary colors.
The process proved to be a bit slower than she originally expected, as it was Killian’s first time painting a mural. However, she has many years of experience with different forms of art.
“My mom loved to paint, so I was exposed to it from a young age. I always did more drawing than painting, but over the years I have done a few paintings,” said Killian, over text.
She started by using chalk to mark her grid lines to keep the design level and precisely placed tape to keep the painting as neat as possible.
Macy Reid, senior, said, “I’m really glad the wall is getting a makeover because it’s been the same for a really long time. I know it also now says ‘2026,’ so I’m glad that it’s representative of the senior class.”
She hopes to be able to change the design every couple of years, so the new and graduating students can see several different mural designs while they are at Leesville.
“I would like to see the tradition continue. While maybe [I would] not repaint it every single year, [I would] at least update the graduating class number. I am saving paint for that, and at least a new design done every few years, so students can see a few designs while they are there,” said Killian, over text.
It makes my day better when I see my dog.
