The Kansas City Chiefs’ record is now 6-5 after a desperate overtime win against the Indianapolis Colts. They grabbed the win by a field goal towards the two-minute warning of overtime.
The Chiefs came back from an 11-point deficit, down 20-9. Even though they won, the Chiefs aren’t regarded as the top team to beat this season. They’re usually always at the top of the list to be Super Bowl contenders, but as the season continues to heat up, will the Chiefs have time to catch up?
Last week against the Broncos, the Chiefs’ win percentage was exactly .500, which was their first time having a win percentage of .500 or lower throughout ten games. Before the Broncos, the Chiefs had lost 22-21 to the Buffalo Bills before their bye week. That loss boosted the Broncos to the top of the AFC West, with the Chiefs now being in third place behind the Chargers.
The Chiefs have not lost the AFC West division in ten years, but with their record, the division is already slipping through their fingers. They have an 11% of winning their division, according to Next Gen Stats and ESPN, and a 54% chance of making the playoffs. In the current playoff standings, the Chiefs would be sitting on the outside looking in.
In the past, Patrick Mahomes has notoriously struggled against the new Indianapolis Colts’ defensive coordinator, Lou Anarumo. When Anarumo was with the Bengals, his strategy consisted of less blitzing, which means a higher-than-usual number of defensive players rushing after the quarterback in an attempt to disrupt a pass or sack (tackle) the quarterback, and more defensive coverage in the backfield, which made Mahomes remain mostly in the pocket, meaning when a quarterback remains behind his offensive linemen instead of running to find open receivers. On Sunday, though, Mahomes had no problem throwing for 352 yards while being pressured sixteen times
While the division might be out of reach for them, it’s hard to predict if the Chiefs are still in the running for Super Bowl LX.

It makes my day better when I see my friends.
