Rho Kappa Social Studies National Honor Society New Member Applications Due October 10

Rho Kappa is Leesville’s National Social Studies Honor Society that focuses on civics and social based service work.

Mr. Craddock and Mr. Vermette are the advisors of Rho Kappa, both taking great pride in supporting ambitious and driven students. Rho Kappa is known for its community of learners who are equally enthusiastic about social studies.

Applications are out now and are due on October 10th, 2025. Both advisors review all applications, along with the student president. All the requirements to apply must be met in order to be accepted into Rho Kappa.

Members must be a junior or senior who have attended Leesville for at least one semester, completed at least two core social studies courses and on track to complete a third, have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher, have a social studies GPA of 3.00 or higher, have participated in activities that demonstrate civic engagement in their school or community, have two teacher recommendations (one must be from a previous social studies teacher), and complete the application form on time.

The typical Rho Kappa meeting may include service opportunities like door decorating or teacher appreciation gifts. Krish Vakani, senior and Rho Kappa President, said, “[To tie it back to social studies] you also learn something about history, like one specific historical fact each meeting.”

Service work can also be earned through suggested events often taking place in a historical setting such as a museum or preserved site. Rho Kappa prides itself on the work it does and the “positive social studies community [it creates]. ” said Mr. Craddock, Rho Kappa Advisor.

Rho Kappa is a great outlet for students interested in getting involved in their community, and including their love for social studies in the process.
