Figuring out your halloween costume can be stressful and chaotic. There are many things to think about when picking a costume, whether it’s deciding if you want to be scary or sweet.
Depending on who you spend Halloween with also plays a part in what you choose to wear.There’s also the group aspect of costume picking. The group may want to do similar costumes or specific group costumes from movies, cartoons, or even books. You have to decide whether you’d like to join a group costume or go solo.
Cameron Beasley, junior, said, ¨Being in a group really does decide what you want to dress up as. Like as a group, we all described what we thought would be a good costume. We looked and then we chose something that was of interest to all of us.¨
If you are in a relationship, you may also have to decide whether you are going to do a couple’s costume.
Some people take costume picking more seriously than others. Halloween costumes are a way for people to express themselves and wear what they want without feeling judged.
Unfortunately, Halloween costumes have become more and more basic. People want to wear basic clothes and do simple makeup and call that a costume.
That does not go for everyone. Other people go all out and plan months in advance to be prepared. To them, Halloween is truly a day to be as creative and expressive as possible.
Dressing up can give you an escape of who you are or who you have to be for one day. You can simply fall into whatever you are dressing up and forget about what’s expected of you for a moment.
Clara Hook, sophomore, said, “Depending on your costume, it kind of sets the vibe. Like you kind of get to play this alter ego, of like embodying whatever you’re dressed up as.¨
Halloween costumes can bring out people’s creativity and spirit for the holiday. No matter what you choose, Halloween is a fun and exciting holiday that will continue to live on through the years. Hopefully the tradition of costumes and dressing up will stay strong.
