Do People Actually Listen to Announcements?

Leesville’s morning announcements are just a part of the day for most students. They’re how a lot of people keep up to date with LRHS events.

Announcements normally occur after first period, and during either second period, or advisory on Wednesdays. This schedule may vary due to testing, or other schoolwide events.

Announcements are run by Leesville’s Executive Council Officers, and occasionally Mr. Greene, or even Mrs. Jacobs herself.

Many students at Leesville have differing opinions on the announcements, often corresponding with their involvement in extracurriculars and events. Ian Sharp, junior, said, “They’re good for keeping students involved in different clubs and activities.”

While there are dozens of students who appreciate announcements, there are others who don’t find them as helpful. When it comes to keeping up with events, Gray Gidley, freshman, said, “There are better ways to do it…I probably use Instagram more.”

There are several other ways to get information out of clubs or interest meetings besides announcements – such as social media, posters around campus, and by word-of-mouth.

Leesville offers a variety of diverse extracurriculars and opportunities for students to partake in. Announcements allow for a fast and easy resource to get details, but some believe it could be quicker. Addison Brockman, junior, said, “I wish some of them [announcements] were a little bit more like, to the point.”

Overall, announcements help a lot of students keep up to date with important information relating to clubs or sports teams they may be interested in. While some may see them as pointless or a waste of time, they’re beneficial enough to stay.
