Do Leesville students have enough time at lunch

Lunch at Leesville Road High School from bell to bell currently is 35 minutes long. At that time, students who stay on campus are expected to buy their food from the lunch line or eat their lunches they packed from home. Students who are allowed to go off campus are expected to go off campus and go get their food, and be back before their lunch period is over.

Some students feel like they don’t have enough time at lunch for various different reasons, one of such reasons is that when going off campus, they aren’t able to get their food and return in time to eat before class starts.

Lucas Ceccino, junior, said, “I feel like we don’t have enough time at lunch because for going off campus, considering the traffic getting out of school and all of the people at the place you are trying to get food, we don’t even have enough time to eat before class.”

Another reason students feel like they don’t have enough time at lunch is that the lunch lines can take a long time to get through.

Eli Singer, sophomore, said “I pack lunch so I feel like I have enough time to eat, but I have friends who buy lunch and they aren’t actually sitting down with me and eating until 10 minutes before the bell because of how long the lunch line takes.”

On the other hand, some students feel like they have enough time to get everything they need to do in that amount of time at lunch.

“I feel like the school provides us enough time at lunch, I am able to get everything I need to do done within that time,” said Eryn Anduchowitz, junior.

While some students feel rushed during lunch, others believe 35 minutes is enough.

This is what we need to encourage teen drivers to speed….35 minute lunch break. Hear the lunch bell, run to the car, race to the burger/chicken spot, race back, park, eat, run in…no problem. Both my sons graduated from Leesville and I speak from experience. “Can you make it there and back in 35 minutes?” I asked. “Sure, if you drive fast enough.” Brilliant. At least expand it to 45 minutes. You shouldn’t ask the kids “is that enough time?” You should ask them, “Would you like a few extra minutes?”
