The 2025 National Honor Society Induction Ceremony

On Wednesday, September 17, 2025, the Leesville Road High School Chapter of National Honor Society inducted 106 new members into the honor society. The induction ceremony was held in the auditorium, with refreshments and snacks provided in the main lobby afterwards.

The purpose of NHS is to honor and recognize the students who have exemplified what it means to be a good and hardworking student. Membership into the honor society was selected based on outstanding achievements regarding scholarship, leadership, service and character (also known as the four mission pillars of NHS).

Madeline Carpenter, senior, is the President of NHS here at Leesville. As the president, Carpenter is responsible for conducting all of the honor society’s meetings, as well as helping to lead the induction ceremony. Carpenter said, “I was the president of National Junior Honor Society in middle school and I really liked it. I also just love handling different organizations like counting hours and stuff like that, so I thought [being the president] would be a good position for me.”

The induction ceremony for the 2024-25 school year was similar to the routine followed this year, where the officers of the honor society gave speeches and the new inductees walked across the stage to receive their certificate.

Owen Beal, senior, returning NHS member, said, “[NHS is] a really good opportunity to meet people [and] to help your community. I’m just looking for ways to help out and do what I can.”

As part of being in NHS, students must gain at least ten service hours per semester, as well as a signature to confirm the legitimacy of their service. Students must also maintain a cumulative weighted GPA of 3.6 or higher.

Kira White, junior, is a new inductee into NHS for this school year. She said, “I chose to apply [to NHS] because I really like the foundations of that honor society and that I can have a community where I know that I’ll be surrounded by a lot of peers who just understand and are at the same level as me.” To gain service hours, White volunteers a lot of her time helping the middle school with their theatre department, as well as math tutoring for 7th graders.

Being a member of NHS means to uphold the principles and expectations of the honor society and present oneself as a model student in other words. Carpenter said, “My favorite part [of [NHS] is that it’s such a big community, and there’s so many people that are in it… we have almost 200 members, so it’s just fun to be in a club that has so many people in it.”
