LRHS JV basketball coach heads into year 2

Latricia Snead is headed into year two as the Leesville Girls’ JV basketball coach.

Coach Snead’s goals for this upcoming season are for her players to focus on mental toughness and skills. “Training will include drills designed to build mental fortitude. That will prepare them to perform under pressure and makes them less rattled when the stakes are high.” said Snead.

By setting these goals, she also adjusted training methods and says she hopes to see her team doing more. “I look forward to doing more. More drills, more discipline, and a better record.” said Snead.

This helps her players better themselves from last year.“We’re gonna do different things… like weight training and different stuff…they become stronger. Be more competitive. We’re gonna do practice just like we’re in the game every practice. It’s just like game,”  said Snead.

Reflecting on her first year coaching, Coach Snead was surprised that she had to quickly learn new strategies and figure out what worked best for her team. “I was surprised by how quickly I had to adapt my coaching strategy. What I thought would work didn’t fit our team’s unique strengths, so I had to step out of my comfort zone and learn from my players,”  said Snead.

She was also proud of her team for working through hardships. “My proudest moment was the girls actually pulling together. Our record being eight and eight, even though we didn’t have all the pieces that we needed,” said Snead.

Coach Snead wants to be remembered as a coach who gave valuable lessons to her players and hopes that they will become leaders after leaving high school. “I want my legacy to be about developing confident, resilient, and respectful athletes. If my players leave the program as better leaders and teammates on and off the court, then I’ve done my job,” said Snead.
