Leesville Volleyball’s annual assists against Alzheimer’s game is happening now!

On September 18, the Leesville Volleyball Teams will be playing at home against Athens Drive, but this game is about more than just winning.

The team is organizing its annual Assist against Alzheimer’s game, a fundraising event for the North Carolina Alzheimer’s Association.

Alzheimer’s is a progressive neurological disorder that affects memory, behavior, and cognition as someone ages. It is estimated that over 7 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s, so this fundraiser is very important to the team.

Cadalh O’wayer, senior and varsity player, said, “This game is so important for us because Alzheimer’s is a disease that hits very close to home for many people, especially a lot of people within our program.”

For the past 8 years, the team has dedicated one game a year to this cause. They have been able to raise around 1000 dollars each year through raffles, silent auctions, and the generous donations of the community.

Chloe Cragg, senior and varsity player said  “We are raising awareness for a good cause and it is a disease people are not as aware about, so we are very excited.”

Donors can decide to support one of the three volleyball teams — JV a, JV b, Varsity– and at the end of the night, the team that raises the most money gets to pierce the losing team in the face.

Cragg was pied in the face last year and  recounts that “It was for a good cause, but this year varsity is going to have to up their game.”

Come out wearing purple to support the cause this Wednesday; Junior Varsity plays at 4pm and varsity at 6pm. You can buy tickets on Gofan.
