Come to the Leesville Jewish Culture Club!

The Jewish Culture Club is back at Leesville this year! They had their first meeting on Wednesday, September 3. At the meeting, they welcomed new members, introduced the new leadership, and played a game of human bingo.

The club has been active at Leesville for the past two years, but with all previous officers having graduated, a fresh set of students is taking over.

This year, officers Naomi Lehavot, Annelise Miller, June Noyes, Sophie Key, Juliana Kielmanovich, and Talia Max are dedicated to outreach and making the club a community.

Naomi Lehavot, senior and President of the Jewish Culture Club, said, “We are going to have more frequent meetings that are more involved and more centered around the Jewish holidays.”

A common misconception about the club is that you have to be Jewish to join

“Anyone should learn more about Judaism as a whole because so many people who go to Leesville are Jewish, and it’s a very interesting religion to learn about,” said Lehavot.

Their next meeting will be held on September 30 and will be centered around Rosh Hashanah — the Jewish New Year, which takes place from September 22 – 24 this year.

“My favorite thing about the club is that it allows underclassmen to meet other Jewish peers, so they feel like they belong at Leesville,” said Lehavot.
