On Monday, August 25, the LRHS Men’s Varsity soccer team faced off against the Green Hope Falcons. The Pride won 3-2–their 2nd win out of their five games played so far this season.
“I feel like we played really well as a team. We fought hard together and really came together and proved what we can do,” said Colt Gidley, junior, and the team’s junior captain.
“I think it was a great game. I think the team played well, and we did good to win in the second half,” said Landon Ange, sophomore.
Other than a Green Hope goal around the 20-minute mark, the first half was relatively uneventful for the Pride.
However, in the second half, goals from Ange and Gidley around 29 minutes and 20 minutes, respectively, gave the team a second wind. A yellow card awarded to assistant coach Corey Moore added some extra fuel to the fire.
Green Hope scored again in the second half around the 17-minute mark, but a goal from Leesville senior Julian Tubbs in the last 5 minutes sealed the game.
This victory was especially sweet for the Pride, as they lost to Green Hope twice in the 24-25 season — once in pre-season, the other in the first round of playoffs.
“It felt great to go into Green Hope… and get a win, because it was not great last year, but it was good to come back and beat them,” said Gidley.
Catch the team back in action at home on Thursday, August 28, as they take on the Wake Forest Cougars.
