What LRHS students did over Memorial day weekend

Memorial Day is a holiday to celebrate the brave soldiers of this country, but many Leesville students see the three day weekend as the perfect time to go to the beach, and have a fun break with friends.

Caroline Murray, sophomore, went to the beach this Memorial Day in Beaufort, North Carolina. This get away was not only to celebrate the soldiers of this country, but to celebrate her friend’s 16th birthday.

Murray’s favorite part about Memorial Days is that it’s a Monday where she doesn’t have to wake up before the sun to go to school.

When asked what she likes about Memorial Day, Murray said, “Not going to school. And not having to wake up at 6am.”

Riley Stelmok, junior, also went to the beach this Memorial Day weekend. Stelmok likes to get dressed up in patriotic colors with her friends and have a good time.

“We can dress up in all the colors and everyone is always in a good mood,” said Stelmok.

Finley Lewis, sophomore, also took advantage of the long weekend and went to Lake Gaston with a few of her close friends.

Lewis thinks that even though this is a good time to celebrate with friends it is important to remember what this day is actually about.

“Even though we get to be out of school it is important to celebrate our troops too,” said Lewis.

Whether you are taking the time off to hang with friends, or you’re just staying at home to remember the soldiers of our country, the three day weekend is a very appreciated break.
