High school is a big part of life because it’s the start of your future. There are so many ways you can be successful in these years to prepare you for your next stage in life. Whether you’re a freshman starting out or a junior gearing up for college, these pointers can guide you in the right direction.
Be organized
Being organized is one of the best things to have in high school. It’s easy to forget things if you don’t stay on top of things. Having a calendar or planner helps by jotting down your due dates for assignments or upcoming events. Try to plan out your week every Sunday so you will know what’s coming up. Make a to-do list each day and check them off as you complete tasks. When you are organized, you become less stressed out about things and feel more in control.
Don’t be afraid to ask for help
It’s ok that you don’t know everything right away because high school is a period of learning, and getting help is part of growing up. Communicating with your teacher after school or at office hours can also be helpful. Most teachers are willing to help clarify things again or assist you in learning how to study better. You can also ask friends for assistance or organize a study group. Having something explained differently can make topics make more sense. Never be ashamed of needing help because everyone needs it at times.
Learn Good Study Habits
Having good study habits can make the difference between doing really good or doing really bad in school. Turning your phone off and putting it away while you’re studying can help you limit distractions and try to study a little every day instead of waiting till the night before a test. Flashcards, notes, and testing yourself will help you remember things better. But while studying, it’s important to take short breaks. The better you practice the habits now,the easier it will feel when classes are tougher later.
Take care of your mental health
High school can be stressful, so you need to look after your mind as much as your grades. Always make sure you have time to relax, get enough sleep, and hang around people who make you happy. It’s important to talk it out with someone you can trust if you’re stressed out or just feeling overwhelmed.
