John Proctor is the Villain

John Proctor Is the Villain is a powerful and exciting new play that has been gaining attention on Broadway. Written by playwright Kimberly Belflower, this story brings new life to old ideas and shows how history and modern life can connect in surprising ways. The play is funny, emotional, and thought-provoking, all at the same time.

The story takes place in a small-town high school in Georgia. A group of teenagers are reading The Crucible, a famous play about the Salem witch trials. But as they learn about the characters, especially John Proctor, they begin to question what they’ve been learning.

These students don’t just read the play, they start talking about how the lessons in The Crucible relate to their own lives. They ask big questions: Who gets to be the hero? Who gets blamed? And what happens when the truth is uncomfortable?

Many people know John Proctor as the “hero” of The Crucible. But this play challenges that idea. It asks: What if he wasn’t a hero at all?

Sadie Sink, known for starring in hit T.V. show Stranger Things,  plays a character we don’t get to see at first and slowly sneaks her way into the class room, it plays even more questions.

The reason this play is good is because even though you have no idea where it’s going too, it’s engaging and the characters are bubbly and outgoing, ultimately pulling you closer into the story line.

Throughout the play, you meet the quirky awkward characters coming together to figure out life, —  whether it is family drama or school and classmate drama they can come together and learn the truth. The ending of this play features GreenLight by Lorde making it designated for all teenage girls.
