What are Junior Marshalls

Junior Marshals are a select group of students in the junior class, held in high regard for their academic accomplishments, leadership, and representation of their school.

The group consists of the top 10 academically ranked students in the junior class, along with 10 additional students chosen through an application process. Junior Marshals play an essential role in supporting senior end-of-year activities, including senior assembly and graduation.

“I decided to join junior marshals because I feel like it’s very exemplary of, like, a high standard of academic excellence as well as just like motivation as a student and being a well-rounded student,” said Madeline Carpenter, junior.

The tradition of Junior Marshals at Leesville has existed for as long as graduations have, helping to ease the workload for both seniors and the staff organizing these events.

“[Junior Marshals] are responsible for helping seniors during senior activities and to make sure everyone knows where they’re going. And especially for graduation, making sure everyone is in the right place and everything runs smoothly,” said Will Mabe, junior.

In addition to their responsibilities, Junior Marshals serve as representatives of both Leesville Road High School and the junior class.

“For girls, junior marshals are required to wear a simple white dress, and boys are required to wear suits. It plays into our responsibilities, making us look more refined and more professional, and allows the spotlight to shine on the graduates,” said Mabe.

Students not in the top 10 academically must apply to be considered. This year, over 30 juniors applied for the remaining positions.

“For Junior Marshals, we had to fill out a form that listed our leadership and our activities, and it was just kind of nerve-racking,” said Carpenter.

This year’s Junior Marshals are a group of enthusiastic students eager to assist the senior class with their final high school events.

For those interested in becoming a Junior Marshal, applications open during the spring semester of junior year.
