The LRHS Executive Council will be hosting this year’s powderpuff tournament on Tuesday, May 20, from 3:30 to 5:30 PM! The tournament, originally scheduled for the fall, was canceled due to rain, and it was unknown whether they would bring it back.
Powderpuff is a tournament of flag football games hosted on the football field each year. Girls play, and boys are the coaches.
At Leesville, teams are grade-level, and each team plays in a playoff-style tournament: freshmen versus Seniors, Juniors versus Sophomores, and the winners play in the championship game.
For the last two years, the class of 2025 team has won. They are looking to bring home one final win for their senior season.
The game is running a little differently. Instead of paying for admission, the Executive Council is taking the opportunity to host a food drive for the Food Bank of Central Eastern North Carolina.
Admission will cost two cans of non-perishable goods. Canned fruits, vegetables, meat, and soups are in high demand at the food bank right now.
The Food Bank of Central Eastern North Carolina serves over 34 counties in North Carolina. They envision a world where no one is hungry, but since they are a non-profit organization. They depend on the generosity and support of the community to donate to their cause. “It’s really important that we as a school support this cause because so many people struggle with poverty, especially teenagers. It’s also a great way to give back to the community,” said Abby Coughlin, Executive Council Historian.
Come out to the football field on May 20 with your canned goods to support a good cause and have a great time!
