The LRHS Dance Department performed their spring concert this last Wednesday, May 21, and Thursday, May 22. The majority of the dances are choreographed by students, with input as needed by Shannon Carr, dance teacher.
The dancers performed to songs by artists such as Billie Eilish, Lorde, Aerosmith, Elton John, and Lady Gaga, to name a few.
Each class–beginner, intermediate, proficient, and ensemble–had its own unique dance. In addition to the class dances, students choreographed and performed “small group” dances, comprised of a few students from each class.
“In total, I was in 6 dances, including finale…I choreographed two dances,” said Jaidee Hernandez, senior. Hernandez is in dance ensemble and is the NDHSA president.
“I was [in] 4 [dances]…I choreographed SOS, which was a hip-hop dance,” said Valentina Velez, freshman. Velez is in intermediate dance.
“In total like 6 [dances]…I helped choreograph my small group to Hometown Glory, and a little bit of finale,” said Grace Stauffeneker, junior. Stauffeneker is in proficient dance.
Because students are given creative freedom with their dances, some small groups decide to use props in their choreography. This year, seven members of the dance ensemble choreographed and performed a piece to Money Talks by The Adventures of Stevie V, and they used fake money in their choreography.
While the spring performance is full of fun and excitement, it’s bittersweet for all the graduating seniors.
“It’s our last dance together all as seniors… I love seeing all the wonderful people I’m graduating next to,” said Hernandez.
Congratulations to the LRHS Dance Department on another wonderful performance!
