The Leesville women’s soccer team has opened up conference play strongly, maintaining an undefeated record of 8-0.
Cooper Paiva, varsity head coach, and Avery Gardner, varsity assistant coach, are at the forefront of the team’s success.
Leesville’s women’s soccer team last went undefeated in conference in the 2018-19 season, with a 12-0 record. They finished fourth overall in the state.
On April 23, Leesville played in an important game at Broughton, winning 1-0. This completed the Broughton sweep, and the team plans to continue knocking off opponents.
However, these victories have not come easily for Leesville. The team has been hit by injuries, and currently, four players are not eligible to play.
Earlier in the season, when Leesville and Gibbons played each other, the game was an exciting but scrappy match. The teams were both getting chances, but a last-second free kick put Leesville ahead.
On Monday, April 28, Leesville faced off against Cardinal Gibbons for the second time, Gibbons is ranked second in the conference, just behind Leesville. The Pride came away with an important victory, moving them 2 games ahead of the Crusaders in the conference standings.
In their most recent game, on April 30, Leesville played Athens Drive High School and won 2-0.
Leesville has two remaining games in the regular season. They will play on May 5 away at Sanderson and end the season at home against Enloe on May 7 for senior night.
