Thrilling Cap 6 Swim Meet: Results & Standout Performances

On Saturday, January 25, the LRHS Swim Team participated in the CAP 6 Conference Swim meet against Sanderson, Enloe, Broughton, Cardinal Gibbons, and Athens Drive.  

The meet culminated the regular season with lots of excitement and personal bests. The CAP 6 meet is the largest meet of the season.

 “It’s the last meet and everyone is really hype, it’s way more fun because there are so many teams and people cheering,” said Sampras Takacs, senior and varsity swimmer.

“This meet is unique, there is a cap on how many ‘splashes’ or events each team can compete in. For a coach, it is very strategic as to who swims what to maximize the number of points.” said Stephen Shingler, varsity swim team head coach.

This being said, the CAP 6  meet is not only about a single swimmer doing their best, it’s about the entire team.

In High school swimming each student swims their individual events and those events earn points for the team. High school swimming is able to turns swimming into a team sport.

“I just love being on a team with my friends…I have never done swimming before and I really got to know the people on our team and now we are all really close,” said Aria Wood, freshman and varsity swimmer.

Aria raced in the 50-meter freestyle,100-meter freestyle, and two relays. She qualified for the regional meet that will take place on February 1,

The regional meet is by qualification only. Fifteen Leesville swimmers qualified for the regional meet including; Riley Hawkins, Delanee Williams, Cameron Wilson, Ellie Crosby, Emma Thomas, Aria Wood, Eli Nelson, Hayden Betts-Kitchens, Jonathan Reynolds, Davis Jackson, Raston Sharron, Tyler Ge, Jack Gajowski, David Miller, and Lincoln Gage.
