Leesville’s weight room is one of the school’s most unique facilities. It serves as a training ground for multiple athletic programs and sports teams and is a dedicated space for its namesake weight training course. The room recently underwent a few additions and improvements, preserving the usability of the classroom.
Recently the weight room had begun to show signs of wear and tear. The room’s equipment is aging and demand for the classes it offers is causing the room to end up often overcrowded.
“A lot of old, uneven weights, old equipment, stuff like that…” said Javier Brewer, junior.
As of the week of November 11, new equipment has been added to the room. Larger, double-sided benching and squatting racks are the main addition, allowing more students to use the weight room simultaneously. The room feels more open and airy as well. “We got 5 new double racks. Now we have the ability to bench, squat, do all those different things all at the same time,” said Ben Kolstad, Head Coach.
Gym teachers are optimistic that the new equipment will help students focus more and work harder in weight training. The additional workstations allow more students to participate during workouts, significantly boosting the class’s capacity and functionality. “(The new weight racks) will allow more students to work and have less students standing around,” said Kolstad.
According to Kolstad, both the school and PAC (Pride Athletic Club) contributed to funding this project. These new improvements will preserve the longevity of the weight room, and are welcomed with open arms by everyone who uses it.
