The 80th annual Raleigh Christmas Parade occurred this past Saturday, November 23. Leesville Road High School’s own marching band and dance team also played a role in the parade.
Leesville’s Band brought their own talents to the show. “We played a few Christmas tunes, we also played some of the cadences that the drum line plays when we walk to the field,” said Cruz Lamson, a sophomore and bass drum in Leesville’s Band.
The LRHS dance team followed close behind the school’s band, showing off their skills and bringing positive energy to the crowd. “We had four different dances that we did throughout the parade, we also just waved to the crowd and got super excited,” said Lacie Holman, a junior and a member of the Leesville Dance team.
The Raleigh Christmas Parade has been a part of the season since it started back in 1945. The 80th rendition proved to be one of the most successful and also welcomed back motorized floats for the first time since the 78th parade incident. Marching bands, ponies, parade floats, and even sports cars lined the streets this year– as well as performances from a wide range of Wake County schools. Mr. and Ms. Claus also made a surprise appearance to round out the parade.
Overall, the Christmas parade has kicked off the 2024 holiday season with a bang. Congratulations to our dance and band teams for their excellent performances.
