Named one of the most painful ear piercings to get in your ear, the conch piercing can be a difficult decision to commit to receiving. So, should you get a conch piercing? Is it worth it?
So, is a conch piercing worth it?
Well if pain is a concern, the pain levels are not much different than a regular lobe piercing, and for the most part, the pain is tolerable. But still, it’s a piercing, so it’s expected to be painful in some aspects. During the decision to get a conch, personal pain tolerances should be kept in mind as low pain tolerance isn’t optimal for a conch piercing.
My conch piercing was painful but not more than my lobe piercings. There was more pain in the weeks to come than at the time the needle went through my ear. lay on the ear my conch was in until after five weeks and even after that it was sensitive.
The pain might also vary based on how much experience the piercer has. A more experienced piercer would make getting a conch a much less painful experience while a newbie piercer might struggle a bit more. A newbie piercer would most likely have a better price though than a more experienced piercer.
I got my conch and my two lobe piercings at the same time at Hillsborough Street Tattoo and Piercing. I would highly recommend this shop for getting a piercing. They were very nice, professional, and educated on how to pierce and take proper care of your piercing.
So yes, and no depending on many factors.
Yes, because it’s a super cool and unique piercing.
No, because Although it looks cool, it also takes a decent amount of care and waiting for a conch to heal. You have to clean the piercing at least once a day without soap and without twisting or scratching the piercing. It’s also not possible to change the conch piercing until after 8 to 10 months until it heals which is significantly more time than a regular lobe piercing to heal which takes 6 to 8 weeks.
Located in the ear’s inner cartilage and adjacent to the ear canal, the thick cartilage takes much longer to heal than a regular lobe piercing or an outer cartilage piercing.
All in all, I would say that the conch piercing was worth it. Aesthetically, I love how cool and stylish looks. If you can tolerate the pain in favor of aesthetics then it will ultimately be worth it to get such a piercing as a conch. But if the aesthetics aren’t that appealing, then I wouldn’t recommend going to all the trouble.
