North Carolina annual Youth and Government conference

The North Carolina Youth and Government program is a YMCA-affiliated program that allows middle and high school students to participate in model government systems on the local, state, and national levels.

Founded in 1936, the YMCA Youth and Government program allows teenagers to explore different branches of government through specialized roles students can participate in during conferences including lobbying in the legislative branch, participating in mock trials in the judicial branch, working as an advisor in the governor’s cabinet in the executive branch, and various media roles. Youth and Government prepares students for future careers through teaching critical thinking skills, networking skills, as well as a strong understanding of the U.S Government.

“I hope to learn to be a better leader and how to apply my knowledge of the government to create meaningful work… to build a future that we want, we have to understand and be knowledgeable about politics and government,” said Tillie Noyes, senior.

The 2024 annual conference will be held from February 13-16. Students can apply for specialty roles to participate in at the conference by November 10, 2024. The last day to register for the conference is November 30. For more information, reach out to NC Youth and Government program director Amber Mcclure at amber.mcclure@ymcatriangle.org
