September 12, 2024, ninety-four juniors and seniors were inducted into the LRHS chapter of the National Honor Society. The induction ceremony is the last step in a long membership/acceptance process.
“I think they are really important to honor everything the kids have been doing to get an induction, like get into NHS cause it’s really difficult,” said Carson Webb, senior. Webb is the president of the Leesville chapter of NHS.
“Induction serves the purpose for celebrating the fact that they got in … this is kind of your final step in completing your membership,” said Stephanie Langlois, staff. Langlois has been one of the faculty advisors for NHS for over 12 years.
The ceremony is an important part of the admissions process, as it celebrates the students for all of their hard work getting into NHS. “It’s new members and making sure that they are overall part of the group because it’s not necessarily just a school or a local thing, it’s a nationally looked at the organization,” said Cornelius Wade, staff. Wade has been an NHS faculty advisor for over 4 years.
When talking about running the ceremony, there isn’t a whole lot the teachers do. “I’m just the facilitator. We have elected members that are responsible for creating the script, making sure they have students’ names, making sure they have information for students … the best part for me is to see students in action and see them in their accomplishments,” said Langlois.
When it comes to the student leaders, however, there is a lot to do and a lot of stress. “I didn’t want to say anyone’s name incorrectly. I know parents are videoing, and I didn’t want to say anyone’s service wrong … I want to really honor you and what you’ve done,” said Webb.
The ceremony concluded with the inductees reciting the NHS pledge as official members of this esteemed organization.
