how are Leesville students involved in the community?

As a student in highschool, you have to prepare for the future. Getting involved in community service is a great way to jump start the process and enhance college applications. You can do this through school events with a multitude of people. At Leesville we have many opportunities and events to gain community service hours.

One excellent example is Key Club, a long standing organization. It was first founded in 1925 in Sacramento, California, with just 11 boys dedicated to improving their school and lives of the classmates around them, key clubs around the nation provide numerous community service opportunities.

At Leesville, the key club has monthly meetings where students can contribute by bringing cans of food, helping to pack supplies for the homeless, or even participating in various service projects.

Oliva Lilley,  sophomore, shares her experience: “I volunteer at UNC Rex Hospital. I restock supplies, and I log the expired data.” Lilley appreciates how she gets to see all of the “behind the scenes work” preparing herself for the future where she will work in the medical field. This hands-on experience helps Lilley to become familiar with her environment and ease her transition into a future medical career.

In our community, there are people who are less fortunate and in need of a helping hand, and that’s where junior; Jack Gajowski comes in and offers his support. “I teach kids how to swim, including refugees who came to the United States and I helped teach them.” Gajowski said he likes to do what he can to support and help the people around him. He has been swimming since he was young and he likes to use that talent for good.

Community service is about more than just adding to your resume. It’s all about making a difference in the lives of others and gaining valuable experience that will shape your future.
