Over 700 incoming freshmen are attending Leesville for the 2024-2025 school year, so it makes sense that some freshmen would be nervous about starting high school. Whether the nerves are related to starting a new school, making new friends, or taking ough classes, it’s understandable to be nervous.
“It’s a lot of people and I’m just worried about getting to class on time,” said Liv Philyaw, freshman.
When Liv was asked about what classes she plans to take in the future she said, “I took dance in middle school, and I plan to take dance all 4 years.”
Kieran Groves, sophomore, took a moment to reflect on the previous school year. “I think I could have done better. I didn’t pay attention and I slept all first period,” said Groves.
Groves also explained how he’s taking more AP classes this year to raise his GPA, something he wishes he did his freshman year.
Many freshmen take honors level classes, while some take the harder AP (Advanced Placement) level classes. Classes such as AP World History are meant to push and challenge students as well as prepare them for future courses they might be interested in taking.
“Have fun with it because it goes by so fast and it doesn’t feel real now that I’m a senior,” said Easton Hepp, senior. Throughout her years at Leesville, Easton has participated in tennis, lacrosse, National Honor Society, different clubs and even had a job as a lifeguard.
Overall, the graduating class of 2028 has already had a wonderful start to their high school experience, with many memories and rights of passage to enjoy.
