2028 Los Angeles Olympics

The Paris Olympics recently came to a close and was a huge success for Team USA. The United States came first in the medal count from the games: winning 126 total medals (40 golds, 44 silvers, and 42 bronzes). The upcoming 2028 Summer Olympic Games venue has already been set for Los Angeles, California, right here in the United States.

The games should commence on Friday July 14, 2028, and last about two weeks until the closing ceremony on Sunday, July 30. Although four years seems quite far away, many people are already excited for them to come back.

Cadhla O’Dwyer, junior, said, “This year there’s a lot of conflict in the world and that was the one thing over the summer where everyone put their differences aside and competed for what they worked their whole lives to achieve. It was fun seeing so many athletes reach their goals.”

The Los Angeles Olympics will host six new events — four being returning sports. Baseball, softball and cricket will be returning to the Olympics for the first time since 1900, and lacrosse will be featured for the first time since 1908. Flag football and squash will make their debut as official Olympic sports as well.

“I’m most looking forward to watching flag football in the upcoming Olympics. I feel like its popularity has increased a lot in the previous years,” said Finley Lewis, sophomore, texted via iMessage.

Whether you plan on watching the Olympics or not, the newly crowned United States “team mascot” Snoop Dogg says that he plans to be there. After a very successful 2024 Paris Olympics, people are hopeful that the 2028 Olympics will live up to the hype.
