Prom is around the corner for Leesville Road High School. The date is set for Saturday, April 27 from 7 to 11 p.m. The dance is held at the Raleigh Marriott Hotel (4500 Marriott Drive) located off of Glenwood and Creedmoor, near Crabtree Valley Mall. The pressure is on for students to start promposals for their dates.
The theme for this year’s prom is Light Up the Night. Most students already have their outfits picked out and planned. The majority of students either go with friends or with dates. This is when people come up with elaborate proposals for their dates.
Kevin Holt, junior, asked his girlfriend of a year and a half, Jaidee Hernadez to prom. Jaidee, junior said, “Kevin surprised me with a poster and my favorite candies, Reeses. I wasn’t expecting it but it was such a nice surprise. I can’t wait to go to prom now!”
Dillon Demidovich, another Leesville student asked his girlfriend Ally Ply to prom.
Dillon, junior, said, “I based my promposal on a kid’s television show Ally and I watched together called Miraculous. The promposal was successful, Ally thought it was cute and said yes.”
Promposals have become increasingly popular throughout recent years. abcnews.com states, “The promposal stunts have gotten millions of views, shares and “likes,” but this quest for social media fame is leading some teenagers to lay out elaborate amounts of time and money in an escalating game of one-upmanship.”
They have become a way for individuals to make the invitation personalized and memorable for their date, for such a special event as prom.
