Softball season is finally here!

Leesville softball tryouts will be held on February 14, 15, and 16 at the softball field at 4:15 P.M. Excitement is high for returning players and new people planning to try out.

After tryouts, team practice immediately starts on Monday, February 19.

Gloves are coming out, bats are swinging, and the girls are getting dirty. It is time.

“I am very excited. I feel like we have a solid team this year and can play very well during games. I am very excited for my senior year and specifically for senior night. The team always has such fun and uplifting energy and I am so ready for the season to begin,” said Kayla Wozniak, senior and a pitcher for the Leesville Softball team.

The schedule is posted on MaxPreps and the first non-conference game is February 28, 2024, against Heritage at 4:30.

Bryan James, Varsity Head Coach of the softball team, is thrilled for the upcoming season.

“What I like about a new season is practice. Games are fun, they validate what we’ve learned in practice. I enjoy the prep for games, the modifications we make during a game. It’s like playing chess with human beings. You see all the emotions and excitement. I always say the best thing a coach can do for their team is know the rules of the game. Play the game by the rules and be the best part of the player’s day,” said Coach James.

Kamilla Cabrera Feliz, a transfer student from New York, has been a student at Leesville since September and practiced with the team during pre-season workouts. She will be trying out for the team.

“This is my first and last year at Leesville. I’m really looking forward to playing my last season of high school ball with the Pride softball team! I’m really thankful that I got to experience a preview of the team during pre-season workouts. The girls and coaches were all incredibly kind and welcoming, I just know they are more than just a team, they are family,” said Cabrera-Feliz.

Leesville students are very excited for the season to begin.

“Being around returning players is fun, everyone is comfortable and knows what to expect, and how we are going to achieve our goal… The speed of the game, the crowd that comes to watch, the way the field looks, just the entire experience. I enjoy watching new players experience this game that we love,” said James.
