The Leesville Dance Team and Dance Ensemble — the highest level of dance offered at LRHS– took their annual trip to Disney World this past weekend.

The dance program has been taking this field trip since before Shannon Carr became a teacher at Leesville in 2017, and it’s a highlight of their season.

The dancers performed seven dances in Disney Springs all of which were choreographed to some of Disney’s most classic songs. They have been working hard on organizing and perfecting these dances since the beginning of the school year.

The girls spent the weekend bonding and unwinding in Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, Epcot, and Disney Springs in the Florida parks.

They also got the opportunity to take a three-hour intensive dance workshop hosted by the Disney Imagination Program.

During this class students are taught by professionals from Disney Live Entertainment and get to learn choreography from shows performed at Disney Parks all over the world.

Sarah Staniziale, a senior and a member of the ensemble, said, “My favorite part was going on slinky dog dash and spending time with everyone.”

Staniziale performed in two dances — one of which was choreographed by LRHS dance teacher  Carr to the song “Strangers Like Me: from the Tarzan.

When asked why they keep returning every year, Carr said, “It’s the magic of it al. Every year is different, and every group is different.”

This tradition has become a core memory for the dancers and it is safe to say that Disney will continue to extend its magic to the LRHS Dance Department for years to come.
