NC State stepped up in a big way to defeat one of their in-state rivals, Wake Forest, 30-21. The Wolfpack improved to a record of 7-2. They also went on to win their 16th consecutive game at Carter-Finley Stadium.

MJ Morris, true freshman quarterback, led the show with a 3 touchdown performance. Morris joined Jacoby Brissett and Phillip Rivers as the only true freshman to throw for 3 touchdowns in their first career start.

The matchup with Wake Forest was the first top 25 matchup in Carter-Finley Stadium since Lamar Jackson and Louisville came to town in 2017.

The Wolfpack started strong with a 3-0 lead on their first offensive drive. The score remained the same for the rest of the first quarter.

The second quarter was an explosion of offense from both teams. There were 4 combined touchdowns in the second quarter which is considered the  highest scoring quarter of the season for State.

NC State went into halftime with a 17-14 lead in what was looking to be a shootout between MJ Morris and Wake Forest’s QB, Sam Hartman.

To start the second half, Morris and the wolfpack offense drove right down the field and scored a touchdown to take a commanding 24-14 lead.

Another field goal in the 3rd quarter  State’s lead to 13.

Morris led a long, sustained drive all the way down the field that ended in a Chris Dunn field goal for the WolfPack. An NC State turnover on the following drive would seal the deal and give the Wolfpack its 16th consecutive home win and their first top 25 win of the season.
