As the school year begins, people start to sign up for clubs such as Key Club, Executive Council, and Model UN.

Along with the new year, Model UN also has a new President. The president, Kal Behailu, is a senior at Leesville and has been part of Model UN since she was a freshman. “[I] fell in love with debate and the public speaking aspect,¨ said Behailu.

Model UN “will be going to Duke University Model United Nations Conference (DUMUNC) and then there will be Model UN at Chapel Hill (MUNCH,) and we are looking at other conferences but those are speculative,” said Behailu.

Last year Model UN’s advisor was Scott Sinor, but sadly Sinor stepped down at the end of last school year. This year, the new advisor is MUN Michael Roche who is “happy to fill in.”

Last year Model UN members met virtually — due to Covid-19.

“[This year] we are going to in-person meetings. We will be meeting every other Wednesday after school in Mr. Roche’s room. We will also provide materials on Google Classroom for those who are unable to attend.”

For those who want to join Model UN there is an interest meeting on 9/21/22 in room 247.
