Wednesday night the Millbrook Wildcats came to Hamilton Stadium to take on Leesville Road in a Cap-8 conference game. Leesville entered the game 4-0-0 in the conference and Millbrook 3-1-1, after recently losing to undefeated Wakefield and tying Heritage. The Wildcats bounced back after their recent skid and defeated Leesville 2-1.

Millbrook opened the scoring in the 11th minute of the game when Alexis Strickland got a cross from Haley Flowers and headed the ball in for her conference-leading 14th goal of the season.

The remainder of the first half saw multiple scoring chances for the Pride, but Hayleigh Pack, Millbrook goal-keeper, held strong keeping Leesville scoreless through the first half of play.

The Wildcats continued their momentum from the first half by tallying a goal 44 seconds into the second half from Flowers after multiple deflections and a rebound given up by Brenna Murray, Leesville goal-keeper.

Millbrook’s defense continued to stay strong as they clung to their to their 2-0 lead. The Pride were unable to crack Pack until the 78th minute when the Pride’s Hannah Arostegui chipped a shot over Pack to cut Millbrook’s lead in half with two minutes to go.

The Pride were unable to tie the game up as time ran out and the Wildcat’s took home the victory.

Defense proved to be the deciding factor in the game as the Wildcat’s were able to contain the Pride’s lethal offense that had recently caught fire, scoring 17 goals in their last three games.

Leesville will look to bounce back next Monday night as they travel to take on the Wakefield Wolverines. Follow @LRHSnews for results on the game.
