Leesville’s 2015-16 Wrestling season has begun. On Wednesday, December 2, the team took on its first conference match of the season. The Pride hosted Heritage High School, and the match began at 7 p.m.

The first wrestling match started with Zach Hedgepath, sophomore weighing in at 138 pounds. After three hard fought periods, Hedgepath came up just shy of a win with a final score of 7-6 Heritage. Ethan List, junior, was able to pick up the momentum for Leesville in the following match, pinning Josiah Davis, a Heritage wrestler, in 1 minute and 44 seconds.

“You always get butterflies when you are about to wrestle, but it was good. It’s always good to win and I was happy because there was a lot of people there and I really didn’t want to lose,” said List.

Dylan Crabtree, a senior weighing 120 pounds, was the third to last match of the night. Time was stopped due to blood on the mat. Unknowing where the blood was coming from, both wrestlers were checked when finally the source came from a deep gash found on Crabtree’s head. Before he could return to the mat, Crabtree’s head was wrapped multiple times with pre-wrap, gauze, and tape to prevent further bleeding and damage. The time was started again after 1 minute and 25 seconds of blood time. Crabtree went on to win the match with a pin in the second period.

The Pride held off the Huskies with a total of 5 pins, 1 decision and 3 forfeits, ending the nights with a score of 51-21. Leesville’s goal is to go on to become conference champions, and after Wednesday night’s match, they are off to a great start.
