February 7, 2015 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. the Leesville Middle School girls basketball team will be hosting a 3v3 basketball tournament in honor of the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. All profits made from the tournament will go to the Kay Yow Fund.
The Kay Yow Fund is special to the the girls basketball community and to the Triangle. Coach Kay Yow is a former NC State University girls basketball head coach. She is known for her love of North Carolina and her commitment to her teams, a model figure for many young girls.
Coach Kay was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987 and passed away due to the cancer in early 2009. The Kay Yow Fund was founded in 2007 with the mindset of finding an answer in women’s cancer. The charitable organization raises money for scientific research and supporting women who are fighting the disease.
The Kay Yow Fund accepts donations but raises most if their money through activities. The fund organizes many runs, events and tournaments to raise money in a fun and involved way.
The tournament will be held at Leesville Middle School, and all profits from the tournament go to the Kay Yow Fund. The tournament will have three divisions: adults (18 and over), high school and middle school. The price for playing is 5 dollars each student player and 10 dollars for each adult player.
“Our team is looking forward to raise money for a good cause,” said Rose Sande, a player on Leesville girls basketball team.
