Reflections on Men’s Soccer season

The Leesville men’s soccer team, after a season of improvement, came to an end against Heritage in their first-round playoff game.

The boys’ season was a season of growth and bonding. “We got along very well and played strong as a unit,” said Grant Nelson, sophomore and striker.

The boys started their pre-season training in June and worked together with the mindset to take the team to States.

Coach Dinkenor, head coach, was pleased with the performance of the boys all season. “It was a season of enormous improvement from last year… with a lot of promise for our future.”

“As a whole, I believe we made big improvements on last year. We made a lot of progress on offense, but we were weak defensively… still it was a big step for the team to jump from seventh place from last year to third place this year,” said Matt Bissette, captain and starting defender .

Reflecting on the season’s win and losses the team has a dignified record. The boys won 7 out of 8 games in their conference and qualified for state playoffs, an achievement that the team was not able to reach last season.

An aspect that brought great success to the team this season was the relationship among the players. “This year we were a close and strong team. We had a lot of boys from different grades on the team and I think that brought us all together,” said Nelson.

Strong relationships among the team and having each other’s back is something that the boys will aim to continue for success in the seasons to come.

Leaving reflection behind them, the team is already thinking about next season. “Next season, if we focus on scoring and an organized defense, we will be prepared to go farther in playoffs,” said Drew Walczyk, sophomore and center-mid for the team.
