The first Spanish Club meeting of the new school year was held on Monday, September 15.

Students from all grades gathered in the breezeway between the auditorium and the gym to hear about the year’s upcoming events for Spanish Club.

The meeting, held during the first half of SMART lunch, consisted of information regarding membership and club meetings. Any student can become a member, whether or not they are currently in a Spanish class, by paying the $5 dues which guarantees you are a member for the entire school year. Dues can be paid to any of the officers at any time.

“The meetings are going to be themed. At meetings we’re going to play games, eat food, and learn about the Spanish culture. We’re trying to incorporate the Spanish culture a lot more this year,” said Abby Noga, President of Spanish Club. Meetings will be held during SMART lunch every third Monday of the month.

As President, Abby Noga is in charge of planning and running meetings, helping the other officers fulfill their duties and helping the members feel welcome. She meets with the other officers and the new teacher in charge, Señorita Mickens, to discuss how to improve the meetings.

Although Spanish Club will be discussing cultural events and differences, members are not required to speak in Spanish.

“We will not be speaking much Spanish because we encourage a lot of people to join and they might not necessarily be in Spanish class, but we encourage them to use the language if they can,” said Noga.

“People should join because its a great opportunity to meet new friends that enjoy something that you do and explore the spanish culture,” said Noga. The next Spanish Club meeting will be held Monday, October 20 in the breezeway during SMART lunch.
