Senior gift to be installed this summer

Will Woodhouse, senior class president, recently announced the Class of 2010’s senior gift to the school. Woodhouse said that a new sidewalk and two wooden benches will be installed this summer.

The cement will replace the mud to the right of the senior wall, providing a complete walkway for students. This will cover the usual dirty mess that can become extremely problematic when it rains or snows. The benches will be placed outside the east building for students who are waiting to be picked up from school.

“There’s nowhere to sit near the back circle lot, so we wanted to fix that,” said Woodhouse.

The Pride Athletic Club (PAC) will provide the funds for these much-needed contributions.  Proceeds from athletic events are saved throughout the year, and the senior class council votes on what to donate to the school using those funds.

Gifts from previous classes have also been used to add convenience or aesthetic quality to the school. The Class of 2000 provided the set of stairs from the parking lot leading to the sidewalk near the softball field. Another class of seniors purchased a pair of stone lion statues in one of the school’s courtyards. The 2009 graduates donated a set of flags surrounding the Hamilton Stadium saying “Home of the Pride.”

The traditional Senior Gift is a meaningful way to improve the school each year through thoughtful donations and purchases that future students would not otherwise have. With these new benches and an extended sidewalk, the area between the East and West Buildings will be more comfortable and convenient.
