On April 14 the men’s track team defeated Wakefield 74-72, recording their eleventh win and adding to their perfect record.

Dedication, hard work ethic and practice have helped contribute to the Pride’s success this season. Nate Wooten, senior, throws shot put and the discus, believes the guys care about the team as a whole more than just their individual stats. “[The runners] run events that will help the team instead of running their favorite events.”

Another contribution to the perfect season has been newly added Coach Carter who was an All-American track star in college. Carter helps the sprinters with technique and form allowing the runners to achieve lower times on their events. “He is a good motivator,” said Josh Mabellos, senior, who runs the 110 and 300 meter hurdles.

Not only does Coach Carter help the runners, but he also helps Coach McLamb manage the large number of members on the team. With the extra man McLamb can now spend time helping individual runners with their mechanics instead of trying to teach a large group.

With the addition of Coach Carter, the track team now consists of four coaches all who have either coached or ran track in college. “They all bring good knowledge,” said Mclamb. The coaches can use their college experience to help make every runner better.

The Pride still has meets against Millbrook and Wake Forest-Rolesville along with the Bojangles Relay meet and the WCPSS Championship. The Cap-7 Championship will then be held May 5 here at Leesville.

The 4-A Mid East Regional will be held May 15, at Durham County and the State Championships will be held on May 22, at North Carolina A&T.
