On Feb. 6 Leesville took second place with a total of 154.5 points in the CAP 7 Wrestling tournament held at home.

CAP VII Champions included Bobby Griffin 140lbs, Matt Brown 145 lbs, James Burchette 171 lbs and Dylan Edwards 215 lbs.

Leesville wrestlers who also placed in the top four included Zach Cates 135lbs and Kirk Lincoln HWT who placed second, Holden O’Neal 152 lbs who placed 3rd, and AJ Jones 103 lbs, Dillon Alcorn 112 lbs, and Andrew Washeck 189lbs who placed 4th.

Edwards, senior, who placed first in his weight division, made the point that even though he received the top spot, he could have worked harder.

“It was exciting to win, but I feel like I should have done more in my match,” said Edwards.

Kirk Lincoln, senior, was frustrated when he fell to Wakefield’s 285 pound sophomore; Devan Caldwell who he had previously beat 14-2 in the season.

“I didn’t have too positive of a response at the tournament, but looking back on it, the loss helps me get better as an athlete and mentally prepares me for the next match,” said Lincoln.

Matt Brown, senior, was excited to receive first place in the tournament.  “It was really exciting to win and I was so pumped.”

When asked about what they were looking forward to most at the end of the season, each responded with one word:

“Food.”

“That banquet is sounding really good right now,” said Brown.
