Leesville v. Sanderson Track Meet

On March 17 Leesville Road High School’s girls and boys track and field teams defeated Sanderson.  The men won 77-69 and the women won 76-68.

Originally, however, Sanderson claimed victory on the girl’s side.

Mark Mclamb, Leesville’s coach, said, “I double checked the score books and found several mistakes in the ‘Sanderson Scoring System;’our girls did win.”

“I’m glad Coach McLamb double checked the score,” said Brittney Glover, senior, who placed second in the 1600 meter race.  “It shows we have a coach who cares about winning.”

Coach Mclamb is used to winning, and with a history of a strong track and field team, he has come to expect it.  However, the manner in which victory is acheived has changed over the years.

“It’s different this year, because most of our points are coming from the distance side.  We’ve usually been able to win because of the depth of our sprinters, but now it’s the other way around.”

Aaron Smith, junior, won the men’s 800 meter run with a time of 2 minutes flat.

“I felt strong during the race.  I’m happy with my performance and I’m glad I could help out the team.”

Lauren Strapp, senior, won the women’s 1600 meter run, another distance victory for Leesville.  Strapp easily secured first place, finishing in front of the pack and contributing essential points to Leesville’s score.

Glover, senior, said, “This meet really shows that every point matters, rearranging a few first or second places could have resulted in a Sanderson win.  Every person in every race has the ability to make a difference for the team.”
