Leesville’s Varsity Basketball senior night was held Monday, Feb. 8, versus Sanderson High School. To recognize the senior ladies, jerseys were placed on the wall of the base line with their last names and numbers. The senior men wore pink socks or pink colored shoes to honor their last home game as well as support breast cancer.

All five seniors started for the Lady Pride, even Brooke Barrier, senior, who injured her knee Friday night against Millbrook.

Barrier only played the first few minutes to ensure she would not reinjure her knee. “I’m pretty disappointed [not being able to play]. I worked so hard over four years and I cannot even play in senior night,” said Barrier.

At the end of the first quarter, the Lady Pride lead the Spartans 9-8, but could not hold their lead. Even with a hard fought battle, Leesville could not overcome Sanderson’s high powered offense. The final score of the game was 51-30 Sanderson.

“I really wanted to win,” said Bailey Wilson, senior. “It was frustrating not winning on senior night.” Wilson led the Pride with ten points in the game.

During the intermission of the games all senior sports med, cheerleaders and basketball players were recognized by walking across the court escorted by their parent(s). Mr. Rogers announced how long they have been a part of their respective teams and their plans for college.

The men’s game began with all five seniors starting, and a great, senior defense by the Pride led Leesville to a 13-11 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Pride then went on an 18-3 run in the second quarter increasing their lead to 31-14 at half time.

The Pride would hold on to their lead for the rest of the game giving Leesville a 55-46 win on senior night.

“The win was great, the atmosphere was good, and we owed the fans a win. I am glad it came on senior night,” said Dillon Smith, senior.
